The archaeological site of ancient Sikyon began to be uncovered as early as the end of the 19th century, when the American School of Classical Studies in Athens excavated part of the ancient theatre. The rest of the site was excavated by the Archaeological Society of Athens in the 20th century, mainly under the supervision of the architect and archaeologist An. Orlandos.
