The city came to light as a result of the excavations conducted by Sotirios Dakaris, Ephor of Antiquities of Epiros. It is enclosed on the north and west sides by a steep, rocky ridge that ends in two peaks; these were well defended by a polygonal fortification wall, and acted as citadels, equipped with reservoirs of water.
