The monumental medieval complex of Rhodes is a rare, possibly unique example of a fortified town preserved almost whole in the form it had when occupied by the Ottoman Turks in 1522. Since 1985, an intervention program for the monuments, fortifications, housing and neighborhoods and the historical archaeological sites in the town has been in progress. Concerning the fortifications, three walks may be enjoyed, at different levels, along the length of the land walls: the “circuit” of the wall-walk, the dry moat and, overlooking the counterscarp, through the surrounding park.
