PAROS ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM

The earliest traces of habitation in the area of Paros are found on the islet of Saliagos, which lies between the western coast of Paros and  Antiparos, as early as the Late Neolithic period (5300-4500 BC). On Paros itself populations were established later, during the Early Cycladic period  (3200- 2300 BC), primarily on the island’s southern and southeastern coasts. The excavations at Saliagos have yielded abundant pottery (including white-painted vases) and a unique figurine of a woman sitting on her knees. Numerous marble and clay vases and utensils as well as many marble  figurines with arms folded under the breast have come to light from Early Cycladic settlements.
