ARCHAEΟLOGICAL MUSEUM OF KARYSTOS (Code: )

The Archaeological Museum of Karystos is located on the eastern side of the harbor of Karystos, just across the Venetian tower, the Bourtzi. It is housed in the left wing of the Giokaleio Foundation, in two galleries ceded to the XI Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities. The Museum exhibition hosts finds from the region of ancient Karystia, an area identified with the borders of the city-state of Karystos and its territory during  the Classical period, as well as finds from the region of Styra. Wall-mounted texts in combination with explanatory panels for the exhibits provide visitors with considerable information concerning the city’s history and the wider area down through the centuries.
