ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF ARGOS

The first museum collection was created in 1878 by P. Stamatakis on the ground-floor of the Town Hall, where he classified the sculptures and reliefs from the city and the surrounding area. The new Museum building was inaugurated in 1961 and annexed to the Kallergis residence, which  had been used for this same purpose since 1957. In the Argos Museum are displayed finds from excavations in the ancient agora and theatre, the Mycenaean cemetery at Deiras (Prophitis Ilias hill), from Lerna and from rescue excavations.
