LEFKADA ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM

The first Museum was established in the early 20th century by archaeologist W. Dörpfeld at Agia Kyriaki, Nydri. Shortly before WWII, its valuable jewelry was transferred to the National Archaeological Museum, where it is on display. Following the 1955 earthquakes, the finds were transferred to a warehouse and then later to the Public Library; they were re-exhibited in 1978. The continually increasing number of excavation finds made it necessary to create a museum in line with contemporary museological perceptions. Thanks to an offer by the Municipality of Lefkada, the  Archaeological Museum has been housed since 1999 in Lefkada’s Cultural Center.
