The sanctuary of Dodona (modern Dodoni) lies in the middle of a narrow valley on the eastern slopes of Mt. Tomaros. It was dedicated to the worship of Zeus Dodonaios, and was a religious and political center for the peoples of Epirus. Excavations by K. Karapanos in 1875 and the “Archaeological Society at Athens” since 1920 have gradually revealed the sanctuary’s buildings.
