The Byzantine Museum of Phthiotis in Hypati, which was inaugurated in 2007, houses important archaeological finds of the Early Christian and Byzantine period from the entire modern-day prefecture of Phthiotis. The Museum is housed in the stone-built listed structure (built in 1836) which served as the city’s barracks during the reign of Othon. The building was ceded to the Ministry of Culture by the Municipality of Hypati to serve as a museum. The realization of its permanent exhibition at a total cost of 440,205 euro, was included in and funded by the Third Community Support Framework. The 24th Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities, which is based in Lamia, is responsible for the running of the Museum.
